Frequently Asked Questions

What are the diver requirements?

All divers should be in good physical condition and able to exit a swimming pool without a ladder. NO certifications are required, but divers should be comfortable in the water with mask on and able to swim. All divers are required to sign a Waiver and Release of Liability, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity agreement. All passengers should bring food and drinks for the day, sunblock, towels and sea sickness remedy (better safe than sorry ;)

What type of sharks could we see?

There are many shark species that are possible to see off Montauk. Blue sharks are the most prevalent and can get over twelve feet long. Mako sharks are also commonly seen and in the same family as the white shark. Hammerheads have become more abundant in recent years when the water is warmer in July and August. It's not uncommon to have three or four sharks in the water at the same time and past trips have seen as many as a dozen at the cage.

How do we make reservations?

All trips require reservations. Reservations can be made by contacting us for availability or paying directly on the website calendar page. Deposits/payments are required to secure the date requested and can not be changed. Once received, you'll receive a confirmation with logistical information regarding the day.

What is your cancelation policy?

Cancelations and changes of reservations are not permitted. Trip cancellations due to weather conditions will be decided by the Captain at the dock and a refund will be given if the boat does not leave the dock. Payments made with credit cards and/or PayPal are subject to 4% surcharge, if a refund is requested because of a canceled trip. There is no charge for rescheduling. Zelle deposits/payments are also accepted upon request and are not subject to a surcharge. Contact us directly for more information.

When is the best time to go?

Our season starts in June, when the sharks are close enough for us to run trips and ends in mid October. Shark activity is consistent throughout our season. However, weather tends to play more of a roll in choosing the best window. No one can predict the weather months before a trip, but in general June and July seem to have more benign patterns. August and September bring seasonal windy/choppy days, but more varied marine life, like whales and dolphins.

What days do you offer Private Charters?

We offer private charters from June through October seven days a week on the days we have open. These charters can be customized to target a specific shark (mako, white, hammerhead, thresher, blue and basking sharks). Reservations can be made through our calendar, but it is strongly recommended to contact us first for trip logistics and availability.
1-6 passengers per charter.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes. Gift certificates are available through email and valid throughout the season. Purchase in our store.

What is the minimum age for divers?

12yrs. Divers under 18yrs must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Are food and drinks provided?

No. All passengers are responsible for their own food and drinks. There are coolers onboard with ice.

What other sea life could we see?

The ocean is definitely changing off Montauk and that has made our trips even more exciting in regards to what sea life you could encounter. Warmer ocean water has brought more whales, dolphins and different shark types to our area.

Are topside observers allowed?

Yes, but we only take six passengers per trip, so all spots are essential and paid in full. There is a lot of action topside with great photo opportunities and deciding to jump in the water is always an option ;)

Do sharks always show up?

These are true pelagic excursions and there are no guarantees when dealing with wildlife in their environment. However, we are over 95% successful in finding sharks with 20+ years of shark diving off Montauk.
